چکیده

Subdivision surfaces are considered which consist of tri-or quadrilateral patches in a mostly regular arrangement with nitely many irregularities. A sharp estimate on the lowest possible degree of the patches is given. It depends on the smoothness and exibility of the underlying subdivision scheme.

Smoothness of Subdivision Surfaces with Boundary

Subdivision rules formesheswith boundary are essential for practical applications of subdivision surfaces. These rules have to result in piecewise C -continuous boundary limit curves and ensure C -continuity of the surface itself. Extending the theory of Zorin (Constr Approx 16(3):359–397, 2000), we present in this paper general necessary and sufficient conditions for C -continuity of subdivisi...

REVERSE LOOP SUBDIVISION FOR GEOMETRY AND TEXTURES

Reverse subdivision aims at constructing a coarser representation of an object given by a fine polygon mesh. In this paper, we first derive a mask for reverse Loop subdivision that can be applied to both regular and extraordinary vertices. The mask is parameterized, and thus can also be used in reversing variants of Loop subdivision, such as those proposed by Warren and Litke. We apply this mas...

Smoothness of Stationary Subdivision on Irregular Meshes

We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for tangent plane and C-continuity of stationary subdivision schemes near extraordinary vertices. Our criteria generalize most previously known conditions. We introduce a new approach to analysis of subdivision surfaces based on the idea of the universal surface. Any subdivision surface can be locally represented as a projection of the universal sur...

C K Continuity of Subdivision Surfaces

Stationary subdivision is an important tool for generating smooth free-form surfaces for CAGD and computer graphics. One of the challenges in construction of subdivision schemes for arbitrary meshes is to guarantee that the limit surface will have smooth regular parameterization in a neighborhood of any point. First results in this direction were obtained only recently. In this paper we derive ...

Gaussian and Mean Curvature of Subdivision Surfaces

By explicitly deriving the curvature of subdivision surfaces in the extraordinary points, we give an alternative, more direct account of the criteria necessary and sufficient for achieving curvature continuity than earlier approaches that locally parametrize the surface by eigenfunctions. The approach allows us to rederive and thus survey the important lower bound results on piecewise polynomia...
